Highlighted Procedures: Bone Graft
“If you are interested in restoring your teeth with dental implants, but have suffered jaw atrophy or require sinus elevation, bone grafting may be the solution for you.”
Bone Grafting Candidacy
Dr. Kline may recommend bone grafting procedures if:
- You are currently ineligible for dental implant procedures because you lack sufficient bone tissue, or if your sinuses lay too close to the treatment site.
- You are in good oral and general health.
- You are not allergic to the grafting material (if donor tissue is used).
During your initial consultation, Dr. Kline will examine your smile, take digital x-rays and/or use our iCAT®FLX cone beam scanner to create a three-dimensional image of your jaw. He will also review your medical and dental records, and discuss your goals to determine if bone grafting may be an appropriate treatment option for you.

Tissue Engineering for Success
Dr. Kline routinely uses advanced tissue engineering techniques for reconstruction of hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity utilizing the "growth" of new tissue. The ability to stimulate the production of new, healthy tissue may utilize the recruitment of your body's natural growth factors or bioengineered products. Enhancement of wound healing is our focus of improved surgical outcomes.
Natural tissue healing and tissue engineering require four fundamental elements that must be present and work together: blood supply, cells, scaffold (bone) and growth factors.
Wounds to the bone increases the blood supply and accelerates the normal regional healing process (RAP) must be present for all tissue engineering to succeed. The cells are the "seeds" and the scaffold are the "trellis". The growth factors are the "fertilizer" that turn the seeds into a vineyard. Our office applies tissue engineering elements to all bone and soft tissue grafting procedures.
Types of Bone Grafting
Dr. Kline offers five types of bone grafting procedures:
- Socket and ridge augmentation: During this procedure, Dr. Kline places a graft to augment the space left by the extracted or missing tooth/teeth.
- Chin and ramus block: Dr. Kline can take a block of bone tissue from your chin bone or ramus (the back portion of your jaw) to augment the bone tissue at the point where you require a dental implant.
- Ridge expansion. A technique Dr. Kline uses when your jaw ridge gets too thin to place implants but has sufficient height. In this procedure, the bony ridge of the jaw is literally expanded and bone graft material placed. Depending on the situation, dental implants may or may not be placed.
- Sinus elevation. If you require dental implants placed in your upper back portion of your jaw with insufficient height between the sinus floor and the upper jaw bony ridge, a graft can be placed under the sinus to create a foundation for implant(s).
- Tissue engineered grafts. Dr. Kline uses a combination of growth factors and scaffolds in relation to the severity of the bony defect in your jawbone. Tissue engineered grafts are a major substitute for block grafts eliminating the second site surgery and decreasing surgical time.
Dr. Kline will administer local anesthesia and may provide sedation to keep you calm and comfortable during your bone grafting treatment.
Expediting Your Healing
Under an FDA approved technique called L- PRF (Leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin) we are able to obtain a high concentration of your body's growth factors and deliver them to the surgical site. This process produces rapid healing, especially during the critical first seven days after placement. L-PRF contains 3-5 times the amount of platelets and leukocytes found in a regular blood sample thus inducing rapid vascularization of bone and gum tissue. As with medical blood tests, only a small amount of blood is drawn from a vein as needed to prepare L-PRF. Blood is drawn as a sterile procedure within our state-of-the-art office, centrifuged and the L-PRF delivered to the surgical area beginning the accelerated repair process. L-PRF high content in leukocytes might have a role in regulation of inflammation and prevention of infection.

Our are the Best!

Dr. Kline you are one of the first dentist that made me feel totally relaxed. You completed my implant reconstruction and in no pain at all. You explained everything in full detail with all my options to me and I have never been happier with my smile.
- Jane B.

Dr. Kline was a savior. I lost a front tooth and was confronted with it's attendant embarrassment until I could get it fixed. He started the four month process to the permanent implant. The result was an absolute success!! The new front tooth is a perfect match and feels just like the original.
Dr Kline is an artist and I highly recommend him.
